My students are diverse in both their backgrounds and their learning styles. Second grade students love to be challenged and learn how to solve problems. They are 7 and 8 year old children who love life and love hands-on learning.
Enthusiastic, social and eager to learn - welcome to the world of a second grade student!
Our classroom is a place where students will not only learn academics, but will develop the skills to engage in learning that will serve them throughout their life. Our future leaders need time and resources to continue to engage in hands-on activities that teach them to be critical thinkers and collaborators as they solve engineering design problems.
My Project
Second grade students continue to need open-ended, hands-on materials to construct knowledge about the world around them. Sadly, these materials are often absent from classrooms and replaced by prescribed curriculum as children leave kindergarten. Balance is the key! Second graders need opportunities to creatively explore materials, and to combine this with documentation of their learning.
Unit blocks excite and engage all learners and provide infinite possibilites for engineering design, collaboration and problem solving.
Second grade students delight in hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities. I can give them the time in their day for this, but we need the materials!
