My students need these STEM materials such as KEVA Planks, Lincoln Logs, and K'Nex so they have hands on, experiential learning while building unique opportunities to design and solve challenges relevant to their lives.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students work on being safe, respectful and responsible every day. We come to school excited to learn about the world around us. We are an extremely diverse group of learners with a high EL population.
These children are all unique with diverse interests and talents!
They are active, curious, and waiting for opportunities to explore and be amazed at the world beyond our walls and our community!
They want to be astute problem solvers and are ready for learning challenges.
My Project
As a STEM School we work on teaching our students to build with their hands which fosters creativity and sparks the imagination. In each classroom we provide STEM bins so students can use them in various concepts throughout the day. Using easy snap together materials like K'Nex and Tinker Toys help children problem solve what will and will not work in designs. They can build story settings or engineer a car. As students work with materials such as straws and pipe cleaners you can see the wheels turning in their minds as they figure out how to put things together as well as take them apart.
Students learn better by doing and STEM stimulates the mind and keeps students actively engaged.
Using Brain Flakes students can work on spatial reasoning and problem solving skills. Our green screen and green suit will enhance student voice as they share the concepts they've learned in a creative video outlet.
Through our STEM bins students will put their science and engineering skills to use to become thinkers and innovators using their creative brains to replicate scientific concepts and make connections to their world.
