Help me give my students materials for engineering challenges. Stream tables, clay and soil to help them learn about erosion and our changing climate, and motors to build electric circuits with.
I am the STEM Coach for our school. I work with students and teachers at all grade levels. My school is a Title 1 school that is both economically and culturally diverse. As a STEM school all students are eager problem solvers. Through STEM we engage and inspire students so that we can help all students achieve while closing the achievement gap. We are also using STEM to help students see real world applications and problems they could fix in the future.
My Project
These materials will enable my students to do interactive and exciting science labs and engineering projects. They will learn about erosion with the stream table and then use different soils to study different areas and how erosion changes the land. They will then do an engineering project to try to help prevent erosion. Students will also use the motors and tape to learn about circuits and electricity and then use that knowledge to build arcade games that have a working circuit. They will learn so much about science and engineering and the process of inquiry through these experiments but will also be doing math and reading and writing to help with their projects.
