Engineering Into the Past

Help me give my students the materials needed to enhance our learning units on Ancient China and Medieval Europe through the engineering of their own individual catapults and castles.

My Students

My students are so bright, compassionate, curious, and energetic. I am a new to STEM teacher trying to help my students become as successful as possible. With the continuing increase in technology, STEM is playing a much greater role in their lessons and every day lives.

So far throughout this year, I have seen that when we have the ability to complete hands-on activities within our lessons, the students gain a greater understanding of what's being taught.

Due to Covid, students haven't had as much hands-on learning, which is detrimental to what I have learned about the correlation between hands-on engineering projects and development. Each and every one of my students show an enjoyment in experiments and love to participate, even those who are normally apprehensive toward participation.

I hope that through these projects, that not only are the students' academic knowledge strengthened, but that it will also strengthen their social development and well-being through working together.

My Project

By having my project funded, I will be able to give my students the opportunity to create and build these two projects. Without the provided funding, I wouldn't be able to provide the resources needed on my own. These projects have created a focused excitement for all the students. They are already spending time talking to one another and coming up with ideas on what they want their castles to look like. Having that social interaction, especially since more than half were being homeschooled due to Covid until this year, has helped them grow academically and emotionally.
