My students are excited about being in school! They live in a very diverse neighborhood with about 86% of our students receiving a free or reduced lunch. Many of my students also receive weekly "Snack Paks" because there is not enough food at home. The students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. I strive to provide an engaging environment where they can experience the love of learning.
Students often do not have enough social-emotional support or life experiences at home and this prevents some of them from being ready to learn at school.
I focus on building a classroom that is welcoming, engaging, and empowering. I cannot control their home experiences, but I can make school a safe place to explore, learn, and succeed.
My students need a variety of opportunities to develop their engineering and math skills. Many of my students have not had enough experience with blocks or building so these skills are underdeveloped. The selected materials will help students with following directions, motor skills, visual and spatial awareness, and creativity.
Students will be excited about creating great works using math and science skills.
They enjoy being creative in writing and art and I am thrilled they will have the chance to use their math skills to be creative in engineering also. I look forward to introducing my students to activities that will help develop these important math skills.
