My students attend a STEM Magnet school. They are creative and inquisitive. They are interested in using technology in new and engaging ways. They need to see and use technology in ways that can support them as 21st Century Learners and not just gamers. They love challenges that involve critical thinking, problem solving, and at the same time: Movement! They need materials for hands on learning.
We learned to code and need to use what we know to make something go!
My Project
I developed a learning block using the engineering design process and creativity. Students are given challenges to meet and work in small groups to solve problems. Computer Coding is part of this learning block. Students have learned coding using a variety of online tools. Now we need to bring coding to life!
Botley Robot gives students opportunities to use their thinking skills to see their problem solving come to life!
They will use the engineering design process to solve small tasks, code the robots, and then test their code. They will get immediate feedback by watching the robot, and then can redesign the solution as needed.
After each Engineering Exploration, students reflect on their learning and share their thinking process with the class. This brings the entire cycle full circle as students are anxious to try the next activity! Adding the Botley Robot with activity cards will be a big hit with the class.
