Our school works toward having multiple pathways including engineering to help prepare students for a diverse number of careers and colleges. We use the acronym STAND: safety, togetherness, aspire, never give up and diversity to represent what our school stands for and how we work to inspire and motivate students to be better leaders in the classroom and in their community. Specifically with everything going on around us, we want to focus on diversity in our classroom and reaching students that are underrepresented in our program and help everyone
At Castro Valley High School we have 31 students in Engineering Design and Development, all interested in engineering and learning more about what it is and learning how to problem solve and improve the world around them.
For this project, the students will design and build a prototype to help solve their desired problem in the community. The students need various parts and materials to make an adequate model or prototype to be able to test their design and decide on feasibility.
I have an incredible group of students all motivated to succeed and working on some incredible new ideas.
My Project
Students are working on solving various problems related to technology, architecture, security, city planning, environmental, time management and entertainment and being able to continue to use hands-on learning to build prototypes to explore the feasibility of their design would be extremely important and essential.
These students have formed design proposals that are currently being evaluated by professionals in the various industries.
The next step in the design process is to build a prototype and test their design for feasibility as well as answering the question about whether it solves their original problem.
This class teaches these students so much about good research and being able to explore and find all the existing solutions to come up with a new, non-existing solution.
