My students need the construction tool kits, paint, markers and tape to inspire them to think like engineers in order to invent a game to share with their peers.

My Students
My students are curious about the world around them. They enjoy using their imaginations and creativity in their learning. Throughout the year students work hard to reach their potentials. They learn how to see things from the perspective of a scientist, an engineer, a writer, an artist, a historian, and a mathematician.
They attend an inner city school in Southern California.
Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Students enjoy coming to school and having fun while learning.
My Project
After studying about the amount of waste that we produce in our landfills we watched the video "Caine's Arcade." Students were inspired to do something to reduce the amount of trash our school community sends to the land fills.
They decided to collect the cardboard thrown out by the cafeteria for a week in order to reuse it to build a project, just like Caine did.
But, in order to create some truly magnificent things, we need some extraordinary tools beyond the school scissors and glue.
Our school has very limited art supplies. The tape we have is of the lowest quality and cannot possibly hold together the cardboard. With the help of these materials students will be able to do most of the work on their own, with limited adult intervention. These cardboard cutting tools will help them build their designs. The bolts will enable students to easily join cardboard parts, making their creations more durable. The paint and the markers will really make their projects stand out. The pumps for the paint and glue will enable students to get their own materials.
Students will work in teams in order to create games. Part of the project involves them explaining the science behind their creations, as we have studied about the forces. They will be using the engineering process to make their games happen. At the end, students will invite their parents as well as their peers to play with them. With your help, students will create some wonderful projects.
