Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are comprised of Transitional Kindergarten students that that like to explore, ask questions, and move. There are currently 14 boys and 4 girls. They are a very active class that needs highly engaging activities to keep them motivated for their best learning. They enjoy learning through play and are very curious. Students like reading, drawing, coloring, painting, and building. They enjoy working in groups as they learn while at school.
My class enjoys learning new things by having hands on experiences that use all of their senses.
My Project
Having opportunities to build with blocks is central to children's explorations of math and engineering concepts. Block play is a foundational activity for young children. When children are given a chance to build with blocks, they develop mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills. Social and language skills are also developed in the course of playing with blocks, as children tend to work with their peers in order to complete their projects.
Students will learn engineering concepts through open exploration with the wood unit blocks.
This highly engaging activity will promote creativity, imagination, and problem solving in my transitional kindergarten classroom.
