My Students

"Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.

-Bill Gates

My students are eager to become 21st Century STEM Learners. They come to class everyday ready to learn. We are a Title I school, which means that over 50% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. We are a unique school with only grades 5 and 6 with over 950 students.

As a STEM teacher, it is important for me to prepare my students for the future workforce so that they can be productive adults. My students enjoy the hands-on and real world experiences that they learn in my STEM class.

My Project

Being an Engineer is all about solving real world problems and making our lives easier. At the beginning of each school year, my students research different types of engineers. The types of engineers they research include aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical. It is important for me to bring into my classroom real world experiences for students to experience the different types of engineering.

We are requesting the kit Outbreak Alert: Engineering a Pandemic Response, which students will use to become biomedical engineers.

Students will use the Engineering Design Process to design an antiviral to stop a newly discovered virus from infecting a model cell.

With the kit Outbreak Alert: Engineering a Pandemic Response, students will be able to have a deeper understanding of what a biomedical engineer does.
