My students need these amazing books, Everything You Need to Know About Frogs and Other Slippery Creatures, to increase their abilities to read informational text, and keep them interested in what we are reading.
This could be the year my students really grasp and understand text features and all the WILD SLIPPERY CREATURES out there, with this informational text. These books would grab their attention and pull them in with all the awesome and cool photographs that are featured throughout this book.
At my school, we take pride in the activities and learning we implement with our students.
We are located in the outskirts of a big city, where about 54% of the families struggle to make ends meet. As teachers we do everything we can to encourage a love of learning. The teachers, along with the students, always go above and beyond the county expectations, even if we are short many materials. Our students are always striving to be the best that they can be. Our goal this year is to increase our students' reading and the best way to do this would be with these books, especially within my third grade classroom. These books would be a great step in the right direction of being TNREADY. It would mean the world to my students, as well as myself, if we were funded with these awesome books.
My Project
These books, Everything You Need to Know About Frogs and Other Slippery Creatures, would be used as the main text within the reading lesson for about 5 weeks. We will mostly focus on the frogs, however the reading of the other sections of the books will be greatly encouraged. These books will also be implemented during small groups to guide instruction and develop meaning and reasoning as to why we read informational text, and why we need to understand text features. This book opens endless opportunities for the entire class. As a teacher, I can build Reading lessons, Science lessons, as well as Social Studies lessons all from this one book. If the class receives all 25, every student will have to opportunity to have their own book to further their curiosity as we read, and they will take pride in their very own personal book.
This donation will improve my classroom because each student will have their own book and we will not have to use a picture of the book projected from the active board.
My students can further their curiosity, when they find a section in the book that sparks their interest, they can keep that interest going.
