My Kindergarten students are an extremely diverse group. We are a Title I, low income school. Approximately 85% of students in the school receive free or reduced lunch services. For many students, English is their second language, which means that many students have parents who do not speak English at home. It is my goal to give students the confidence to become lifelong learners. I want to make sure they have the tools necessary for a productive school year.
My Project
My students love having the opportunity to listen to books. This activity is the most popular activity that students complete during Daily 5 reading in my classroom. They can't wait to listen to one of their favorite books read aloud to them.
I know how much my students enjoy listening to books on CD and I know what an impact it has on their overall reading success.
Listen to Reading provides my students an opportunity to listen to a fluent reader every single day. This is extremely valuable because it helps all of my students, even the many English Language Learners, to become more fluent readers themselves.
I would love for my students to feel independent by being able to chose the book that they want to listen too and get it out of the clear storage containers I have requested. This will help keep the books organized and ready to be used at all times. I have some books for this activity, but would love to build my library up and have a variety of books to choose from.
