Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching in East Side San Jose, I have the privilege of working with some of the most amazing 2nd graders in the world. These amazing students, the overwhelming majority of whom are English language learners and who qualify for free and reduced-price meals, are inquisitive, curious, and persistent. My 2nd-grade students deserve a quality education, yet, our school is a Title I school with limited resources.
I do not want limited resources to translate into limited learning.
Rather, I want to foster creative problem-solving, critical thinkers. This has meant obtaining several resources myself; nonetheless, to be able to better reach this goal, we need your help to access more materials.
My Project
Student engagement is crucial to learning. These tools are intended to improve students engagement by providing an interactive way of engaging with the academic material and a non-distractive outlet for student's need to move.
The tools in this project were chosen for their potential to raise student engagement.
The cushions, yoga seats, and fidget bands allow students to move and fidget while paying attention to the content covered in class. The Montessori tools will provide opportunities for students engagement at multiple steps of academic lessons in math, reading, and writing. The math aids will enable students to engage and interact with concepts that can be difficult to master.
