My students need a whiteboard and dry erase board that will allow them to interact and practice the technology and content area skills that I am teaching them in class.
A typical day in my classroom is anything but typical. I am the technology teacher and each day of the week brings new and exciting challenges and opportunities. I teach general education students, students with learning disabilities and those that are English language learners from grades K-5.
My school is a Title I school with a very diverse population.
Nearly 25% of my students are English language learners with over 10 different native languages.
My students love technology. Even though they come from so many different backgrounds (socially, economically, culturally), technology is a place where they can find some common ground. My classroom is also a place where students can be successful no matter if they are at the top of the class academically, have a learning disability, or have a very limited English vocabulary.
My Project
Since I teach such a diverse population at 6 different grade levels, the tools that I use to help me teach are critical. Currently, I project my lessons and my demonstrations onto a white paper which I have used to create my "screen." This paper does not allow for any interaction between the students and the lesson.
As the technology teacher, I would like to be able engage more students by allowing them the opportunity to interact with the lesson more. Being able to physically interact not only allows all students to absorb the material in another way, it is a critical component for teaching young students, students with learning disabilities and those that are learning English.
The dry erase board will allow the students to write and share thoughts and ideas with one another. The Mimio Teach will turn that board into an interactive platform that will bring a whole new life to any lesson.
Student engagement is a critical piece in any child's learning.
Technology is a power tool that can provide many opportunities for students to become engaged. However, the technology can only be useful if it is available. I am hoping to open more doors of engagement and success for my students by bringing in a valuable tool to help me to do just that. Thank you all so much for your generous donations!
