My students need flexible seating options to allow them to get their wiggles out and focus on learning. The wobble chairs and fidget bands engage their muscles to let their brains be busy working.
My little wigglers live in a small community that is rapidly growing with many diverse families. I've lived in this community for 8 years. I've seen a huge amount of growth in that time. What was once a lot of farm land now has subdivisions. My students are a mix of outdoor-loving kids mixed with big-city kids who have recently moved here. Even with all their differences, they love each other and I love them!
Our school was built in 1911 and our classroom needs a desperate update!
Since then this school has been expanded and renovated. Just this year, we split our kindergarten classes to form another class to keep the student to teacher ratio smaller. I'd love for our classroom to give my students the chance to move and learn the ways little kindergartners should be able to.
By having flexible seating options, I can create opportunities for student to make choices on what is best for their individual learning style. Different options like wiggle stools, low tables with seating cushions, standing tables, bouncy bands, portable trays for a hard surface anywhere in the room, and soft bean bags will engage students in their learning!
My Project
My little minds love to learn! Their bodies are made to move! Conventional seating does not provide them the environment they need to do this in a natural way, especially in kindergarten.
By engaging their wiggles, I can engage their minds in learning!
Many classrooms are moving in this directions. They see kids who are able to choose seating options that allow them to wiggle or move to a space that fits their needs. When children are able to problem solve and make positive choices towards learning they feel a sense of ownership and intrinsic desire to do well. By giving my students these wobble chairs and fidget bands, I am excited to see them focus more on the task than the need to wiggle because that need will be satisfied.
