We are an eager to learn class of 19 third graders with a variety of abilities. Our classroom family features students from various backgrounds, but together we form one class community.
How amazing is it that nearly half of our students have a native language other than English?
We are avid readers, thinkers, artists, designers, and scientists that crave knowledge and hope to explore all the world has to offer. No matter where we come from, we all share these same goals and dreams.
My Project
Access to Generation Genius will open some wonderful doors for my students. Our classroom is made up of many students who are English Language Learners. As we tackle the various and challenging topics of third-grade science, sometimes my learners need a little extra help to understand a new topic.
Generation Genius provides teachers with standards-based, engaging, and short videos that can be shown to get students excited about a science topic.
Unlike using Youtube or other websites, there is no need to worry about ads or other unwanted content. Generation Genius has the ability to show examples that I cannot bring into the classroom. For instance, when we previewed a video about how animals pass traits to their offspring, Generation Genius was able to show live animals and their young.
Many of my students have limited experiences visiting places such as farms, museums, zoos and other locations that can help them to connect to science content. By providing our class access to these videos, you can help us to bring background knowledge to our students. With this new visual understanding, students will be more engaged with our content and eager to learn more. Who knows, you may even inspire one of our students to become a future scientist!
