Many of the connections between neurons in the brain are made during adolescence. Studies have shown that those who are shown love, given adequate care, and have a variety of experiences and opportunities from a young age, have more neural connections in the brain. Many of my students come from broken homes, have jobs after school, and have been caring for their siblings from a young age. Despite these challenges, my students are driven, want to succeed, ask relevant questions, and are curious about the world around them.
My students continue to be inspired to change the world and realize that their individual daily actions impact the environment!
I would like to provide my students with a classroom environment where their family's income doesn't matter, a place where they have access to the same technology as a high school with many resources. I am passionate about using technology in the classroom to further engage them and inspire them to be environmental superheroes!
My Project
I have been extremely lucky to receive donations for my classroom from people all around the country time and time again - from people who understand that resources are not readily available to teachers and students at a public school.
A group of students stole my MacBook so I am in need of a new one so I can continue to guide my students through science lessons.
The level of engagement during a lesson using technology where students have visuals and sound is ten-fold compared to me just talking to them. Many teenagers need something to view as they are learning and appreciate being able to refer to a visual for instructions and expectations. It's astounding what a difference having a picture, video, or model projected on the screen can do for learning!
