My name is Mrs. Allen, and I am the Media Assistant at a Title I school in Indiana. Most of our students live at or below a poverty level. However, most of our students also love to learn! I am lucky enough to get to spend time with our entire student population, and I love them all like they are my own.
Our library just recently received a much needed makeover, but we are looking for more fun, engaging activities for the students after they have checked out their books.
My Project
I see every class of students for 40 minutes throughout the week. Some students love checking out new books, finding a cozy reading space, and diving in. Others struggle with finding something they enjoy doing and coloring pages only entice them for so long.
My goal is to offer center style learning that will focus on STEM and literacy.
IO blocks and the Maze OTM starter set will offer quiet STEM options for those who choose not to read, while the puppets will help with retelling and comprehension. Bloxels Build your own video games will also help me incorporate more technology. I want to have something for everyone in our library with hopes they can't wait to come back the next week!
