My first grade students are full of enthusiasm and curiosity. They love learning new things and sharing their discoveries with others. Adding more technology to my classroom will help fuel their imaginations and give them more tools to share what they have learned.
I teach in a wonderful elementary school with students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
My first grade students are a diverse group children; half come from homes where English is not their first language. My students love reading stories and writing their own stories. They especially love science. We spend a lot of time learning through poetry, songs, and having lots of fun!
My Project
One of my students favorite part of the week is when we go to the computer lab for thirty minutes. Often we work on math skills with the program Dreambox. The students are able to work on math in a way that is engaging and fun. Students that are struggling with first grade math concepts are given extra practice so they can become proficient. Students that need an extra challenge are given problems above their grade-level. If we had these computers in our class, my students would be able to have more practice time with math. They could also use them to go to other on-line learning sites to help with reading skills. In addition to reading and math, these computers would also allow students more time to research topics we are studying in science, which include: reptiles and the earth and space.
During our daily center rotations we only have enough computers in class for two students to work on them at a time.
It is tough to see the disappointment on their faces when they realize it isn't their turn today. My students would love the extra time on the computer that we be possible with these two Chromebooks. This especially helpful since not all of my students have reliable access to technology at home. Your donation will allow more students the opportunity to use technology each day.
