As I reflect upon the quote below, it is reflective of my primarily African American, fifth-grade student population. They are truly leaders as they inspire me to learn more and do more to facilitate their success as learners.
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader," John Quincy Adams.
This is just one example of the quotes that provide inspiration for the students as they persevere through challenges in their lives. Those challenges include economic as all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Societal and family hardships can become obstacles for some students as well. In addition to motivating quotes, we research African American leaders and read literature to match the gifts each of the students possess.
My students are leaders as they inspire me to learn more and do more as I implement Culturally Responsive Teaching methods to meet their needs with this being my first year at this school.
In our Language Arts and Science classroom, we break into smaller groups. This device can be used for small group book introductions. Students are given the responsibility of collecting data for the class at times. This can easily be transferred among the students. The portability of this device will allow opportunities to document events and learning outside of the classroom that occurs with the assistance of the students.
By supporting this project, you are giving students access to technology that is not the norm.
You will be giving them current technology as well as the chance to use more extensive programs such as Microsoft Word to help with editing documents and more extensive slideshow presentations with PowerPoint.
