I work with fifth graders in a suburban fourth to sixth-grade building that provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top performing schools in the state every year.
My students are kind and hardworking.
They're always pushing themselves to grow! They motivate me every day to be the best teacher I can be. Our classroom provides a place where students learn about the world through literature as they work to improve our Earth for everyone!
My Project
Some students are born readers. Others need to find books that will turn them into readers. As a teacher, I have seen graphic novels provide the path for students to become engaged and excited readers.
Graphic novels can be a game changer for reluctant readers as well as students with specific reading challenges.
This type of format can be a way of leveling the playing field and can be enjoyed by all students regardless of their ability. Strong and struggling students alike can read and discuss these novels. I would like to provide my students with a collection of graphic novels to be enjoyed during independent reading time.
This is consistently the most popular section of my library. With your support, I am hoping to add new titles as well as replace some that have been very well-loved over the years.
