My Students

The students of DNCHS are located where the Pacific Ocean meets the gorgeous redwoods in rural Northwest California.

The student population is diverse and over 65% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

Students come from a variety of backgrounds and wish more than anything to be engaged in learning and excited about content, which is often difficult to do coming from a small rural town with limited opportunities. The students of DNCHS are extremely dedicated and hardworking.

My Project

The class sets of graphic novels will allow students to interact with text and history in a fun and compelling way. Both Maus and Persepolis will give students the opportunity to engage with history in a visual way as students learn literacy and critical thinking skills. Many students have never been exposed to graphic novels so the visual and artisitc nature of the books will appeal to even the most finicky of readers and will open a whole new world into the graphic novel genre. Students will be more in engaged in a book with such compelling story lines and beautiful art.
