My Students

In our classroom, we are building critical thinking skills. I would like my students to be able to integrate knowledge from texts, videos and class discussions to develop their own understanding and to be able to apply these skills to the world around them.

My fourth graders are hardworking and conscientious students.

They are working on building scholarly thinking and actions. They are voracious readers, budding authors and mathematicians in the making. These diligent fourth graders would greatly benefit from resources that help them expand their experiences. Our school is a very diverse Title I school in the Boston area.

My Project

My students need a collection of 21 books to engage in learning about the Civil Rights Movement. These books include Rosa's Bus, Through My Eyes: Ruby Bridges, and I Have a Dream. The students will be learning about many facets of the Civil Rights Movement. Students will benefit from both engaging historical fiction books and powerful nonfiction books. These books will help to increase student engagement, understanding and comprehension of a complex time period. The students will develop their critical thinking skills by listening to, reading and discussing these incredible books. The books that have been selected cover many events in the Civil Rights Movement. Students will use critical thinking skills to compare and contrast books on the same event and integrate their understanding with knowledge from video clips and class discussion.

These donations will make a positive impact on these students.

By providing them with resources that are interesting and relevant, students will be engaged and take ownership of their learning. They will develop their critical thinking skills that will help them be not only good students but also good citizens.
