Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be teaching kindergarten in an early childhood academy located in northeast Harris County, TX. Each of my students are enthusiastic, creative, and spirited. They come to school each day willing to learn and prove to the world that are just as capable as anyone else by thinking outside of the box and meeting or surpassing the goals set in front of them.
My students have unique personalities.
I like to incorporate all types of learning styles in my lessons because each students learns in a different way.
I would like to delve more into sensory and self-stimulatory needs for my students as we see the need grow in the classroom. Many of my students are learning to communicate their wants and needs and giving the professionals that work with them more insight on how to better serve them in the academic setting.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them and keeping them engaged in learning. I have noticed amazing differences in classrooms when they use alternative seating. Students almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk on uncomfortable plastic chairs.
My students will be noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will help them get some of that extra energy out while still remaining productive. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help them grow.
