My students need graphic novels to engage reluctant readers and ESL students.
We are a new school with over eight hundred students in third, fourth and fifth grade. I want to meet the various needs and interests of all my students in the school library.
Kids today are faced with so many distractions in their daily lives that prevent them from discovering the joy of reading.
Between after school activities, homework, and technology, it is hard for students to discover how to be dreamers, thinkers and innovators. Having a strong library collection that reflects students interests and will help students to become lifelong readers.
My students need a variety of books! The students at my school have made it clear that they love to read graphic novels. I have students who are reading below their level, at their level and well above their reading level.
One thing my students have in common though, is a love of graphic novels.
Currently, I only have 200 graphic novels in my collection for a school with over 800 students. I do not have enough graphic novels to meet the needs of my students. These books will increase students chance of reading on their own, helping them to become life long readers.
