I teach in a public school in an urban community. Many students in our school are living in poverty and are faced with hardships on a daily basis.
My class is very diverse but every student in my classroom loves to
learn!
I teach 20 hard-working 2nd graders. They love to learn and it is my job to help them continue their joy of learning! When my students enter my classroom we become a family! I enjoy watching them grow throughout the year. I want school to be a fun and challenging environment. I also want my students to have the resources that they need to reach their goals and be successful!
My Project
We are trying to expand our read-along library and these books will be a great addition. My students have fluency goals that they are working towards for the end of the year. Each day during our reading centers one group is able to listen to a read-along and complete activities that go with the book.
With your help my students can have access to engaging fiction and non-fiction read-alongs!
Being able to listen to a story and follow along is something that can help build their fluency. Many of my students struggle with background knowledge. The informational read-alongs can help to improve their knowledge and vocabulary through topics such as, the planets, volcanoes and cheetahs. The fictional stories are fun for the students to listen to and help them to identify story elements.
My students have already begun to show growth in their fluency, but with these new read-alongs I am hopeful that they will continue to improve and reach their reading goals!
