I work at a public school in Hawaii on the island of Oahu, where I was born and raised. The school I work at has a mixture of military and local kids. I taught second grade for six years, and have been teaching 6th grade for 3 years. I absolutely love it! My school has a great staff and wonderfully supportive administration. I couldn't be happier here! Our students and staff are working on being "AVID." AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Part of being an AVID student includes being organized, taking notes, being responsible for learning, asking and answering questions, etc. Our school and students have been working hard on this and have come a long way! I try to reinforce these "AVID" strategies within my classroom daily and firmly believe that these strategies will help our students to become successful, lifelong learners.
Currently I teach 6th grade Math to 3 different math classes as well as after school math tutoring. Some of these students are in need of basic multiplication and division fact practice. I am always trying to find fun and engaging ways for students to practice their facts. These Power Pen Quiz Cards have been a HUGE hit so far! (I have multiplication quiz cards already).
With your donation, I will be able to have students practice both their multiplication and division facts in a fun way!
Multiplication and division facts are needed for so many different concepts that we cover in 6th grade such as fractions, decimals, ratios and proportions, etc. Not being fluent in these facts hinders students ability to solve more complex problems.
