My students love coming to school each day to learn, see friends, and expand their thinking. Our school has some of the lowest economic families in our district. Some students may never have an opportunity for the extra fun things in life that others their age may get to experience. Despite that, these families are full of love, compassion, and lots of support for their local community. As a whole, we work together to see great things happening inside and outside the classroom. The new school year is beginning soon, and we are so excited to come together again.
My Project
As new first grade writers, my students are branching out into various types of writing from the beginning of the school year. My students love to write! However, sometimes my students struggle with the "but I'm done!" mentality!
Students need engaging texts to teach them how to add details independently.
Sometimes new writers get stuck or struggle to envision more details to their pictures. These amazing books give step by step instructions to help students give more creative appeal to their pictures.
As readers and writers in first grade, we know that writing words will not be enough to engage a reader in our books. Students need to know how to draw interesting and fun pictures too!
