My bright and eager students attend a diverse school in Central California. Each day we celebrate our differences in our classroom and learn from one another’s’ culture and life experiences. My second grade class of 23 students are collaborative, energetic, curious, and resourceful. Our class enjoys alternative seating options, playing hands-on games to understand concepts, and STEM activities.
My students have many strengths and abilities, which positively contributes to our diverse classroom.
The students learn best when they can move around the classroom, choose a seat in which they feel comfortable and focused, and demonstrate their understanding of concepts through hands-on and engaging activities.
The students come to class eager to learn every day and they like to be challenged. My students have a desire to learn and do their best each day. My students learn best by having multiple seating options and through hands-on learning activities.
My Project
My students would greatly benefit from flexible seating options such as wobble chairs and floor seats. I believe flexible seating is important in the classroom because students learn in different ways. Some students learn best while standing, bouncing, rocking, or laying down! I want to be able to support all the students in my classroom, so they can learn in a way that is most comfortable for them. Wobble chairs, and floor seats would allow my students to choose a seat that best support his or her learning style. Offering flexible seating in the classroom will provide students with an opportunity to move their bodies while staying focused and engaged in their learning.
Hands-on materials such as Magna-Tiles, Dive into Shapes Geometry, and Match & Sort Reading Comprehension cards provide students with opportunities to use critical thinking skills and are also wonderful ways to help teach abstract concepts.
My students would benefit from hands-on materials to help them better understand and master math and reading concepts. Lastly, we would greatly benefit from having book bins for our classroom library. This would allow for our books to be easily accessible and organized by AR levels.
One of my jobs as an educator is to ensure my students have a safe and welcoming learning environment. In this environment, I want ALL my students to have opportunities to be engaged, excited, challenged and participate regularly. I know that these flexible seating options and hands-on activities will help my class stay focused and engaged in lessons. My students will take great care of these materials and use them regularly. I am looking forward to seeing which flexible seating options my students enjoy as well as more critical thinking and engagement with the hands-on activities.
