Help me give my students engaging online and printed activities from Teachers Pay Teachers that they need to support their learning when working from home.
There is never a dull moment in my classroom with the bright, funny, creative individuals I have the pleasure of teaching. My students are in a self-contained middle school special education classroom for students with a variety of disabilities that make it difficult for them to access their grade-level academics. Each child has an individual education plan to help them make progress on goals in academics, social skills, communication, and functional life skills. About 1/3 of my students speak English as a second language and every student works significantly below their grade level in all academic areas.
My students love to come to school and it is my joy to get to be their teacher.
They are very hard workers and try their best to grow and learn in every subject. They are full of curiosity, energy, and incredible potential. We try to always focus on the positive and celebrate every success that our students achieve. Every day we do our best to make sure that our students have the necessary tools they need to succeed, but it's not easy when you have a small classroom budget per year in a high-poverty school.
My Project
I am a middle school special education teacher. We started this school year with distance learning and the way learning will take place during the rest of the school year remains undecided. My special education students have struggled to learn digitally with our basic curriculum. It simply does not work for many. This project will allow me to purchase materials that are more engaging and fun for my students as we continue with distance learning. These materials are very helpful during this time when it can be difficult to engage students with the materials we normally use in the classroom.
Because the 2020-2021 school year may be a combination of at-home and in-school learning, this project will also allow me to make printable packets of material for my students who need them, which will reduce student difficulty locating online material and will allow students to fluidly transition between learning at school and home.
It will provide consistency between school and home as students will be using the same materials. This will increase student engagement, learning, and success. In addition, it will be much easier to instruct students virtually as they have printed materials in front of them that they do not have to navigate an online system to locate.
