Help me give my students Junior Scholastic, Scholastic Scope, Choices, and Scholastic Action so that they have an array of high interest information texts to analyze and foster critical thinking.
As a teacher at a Title I school, I do not receive any kind of budget to buy anything for my students, and most often these are the students who need things the most. My students are amazing, mindful, hardworking kids who are eager to learn despite the challenges they have been dealt with in life, challenges that are beyond their control. I teach a diverse student body where students speak many different languages at home including Spanish, Vietnamese and Russian. These students deserve so much more than I am able to give them, and I can only do my best.
My Project
These magazines will make a huge difference in my students' learning by allowing them to engage in high-interest non-fiction texts. They support core language arts and social studies standards and are aligned to state and federal standards. They will be an important part of student learning due to irregular access to computers.
I have picked four different Scholastic magazines and this project will allow me to get a one-year subscription to each of them.
Scholastic Scope is a language arts magazine that is aligned to common core standards and not only has engaging articles but engaging activities to go along with them. Scholastic Choices has articles that relate to health, social-emotional learning, and life-skills. It will be a strong supplement to our mindfulness and well-being lessons we do every week. Scholastic Action has articles and lessons that will help struggling readers, and complement my language arts intervention class, and lastly, Junior Scholastic is Scholastic's flagship current events magazine.
Having subscriptions to these magazines will also allow my students to access the online content and videos that accompany many of the articles when we have computer access.
Please help me get these high-quality magazines into the hands of my eager-to-learn seventh and eighth graders.
