Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom consists of dual language students. I want all my students to be successful not only in this grade, but in their future. A challenge is that my students come from a Spanish-only household. My favorite quote is "Kindergarten implements lifelong skills that will last forever."
My students are kind, caring, fast-learners, but have a lot of energy.
My school is a dual language magnet school; includes one Spanish and one English teacher working together, monolingual teachers, and teachers that independently teach English and Spanish. Our school not only focuses on state content objectives, but also integrates various languages. Additionally, students are also exposed to a third language; french.
This is my first year teaching at this campus, and no words can describe how proud I am to have been given the opportunity to be a part of this amazing team.
My Project
I would place the wobble chairs I requested at the guided lesson table. My students are often moving around and falling off their chair; wobble chairs are tilt proof and allow students to move around safely. Baskets with wheels and organizer seat sacks would help my students transition their supplies (binders/notebooks/boxes) to Spanish class. My students carry heavy materials back and forth every day. I know they are in a crucial developmental stage of their life, and are at risk of developing back problems.
I began the year with a dance song I found on YouTube that would help my students learn to count to 100. My students have a lot of energy, movement and repetition have proved to be successful in their learning of numbers. I have requested Heidi Songs DVDs because they would help my students learn sight words with movement. Pencil grips would help in developing a good pencil grip. I am working on my guided lessons table; I'm still in need of storage and a good sharpener.
These donations would help me improve my classroom by creating a safer learning environment for my students.
These materials would make it easier for my students to safely carry their materials to Spanish class. The guided reading materials I requested would allow me to keep my daily individual lessons and materials organized, at my reach, and ready to use for guided lessons every day.
