Help me give my students scientific calculators for a better mathematics experience. Each student will be able to have their own calculator in class and follow along during instruction.
My students are mathematicians! These students seem to always be seeking or finding mathematical patterns and shortcuts that help them understand the calculations better. Part of this is using modern technology in calculators.
"Teaching math without its history, artistry, or philosophy is like teaching music without its rhyme, harmony, or melody." This is our class motto!
My students are a brilliant set of individuals who love to seek the beauty of mathematics. They continuously connect to mathematics with easy-to-use technology and have a passion and genuine desire to share its innate wonder with others. My top classroom expectation for my students is to ask questions and perhaps, more importantly, how to appreciate the journey of learning!
My Project
Every student dreads math class at least once in their life. Unfortunately, as a math teacher, I see and experience this all too often. Students need teachers that will engage the core content of mathematics with an eager spirit, courageous heart, and disciplined mind, coupled with technological rigor and ease. The students of today also need teachers that are willing to teach the subject in such a way that it is simple to understand.
Simple, sophisticated calculators allow students to visualize difficult mathematics in new and exciting ways so that the drudgery of "math class" will inevitably be distinguished.
Teachers who teach mathematics with these calculators have the intrinsic ability to reach students who do not necessarily enjoy math class. I have personally seen the "light bulb" moment from students who have used these calculators and actually understood what was being taught because of them! These calculators are so easy to use, and for most students, that is enough to open their eyes to the true beauty of mathematics.
The calculators I have chosen will be an excellent tool of accessible technology in the classroom where all students have equal opportunity to follow along and learn.
