This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students at my school come from a multitude of diverse backgrounds and attend our school from low-income neighborhoods across Indianapolis. A majority of them receive free lunch and face many additional challenges, both inside and outside of the classroom, such as lack of access to technology and other opportunities.
Studying math will help develop these students into future engineers, scientist and even teachers.
They are an amazing group of 4th grade students, who will learn that math is fun by playing games they will LOVE!!
My Project
As a teacher I want my students to be good at math. My students need to learn math to make their own adult lives better, by making smart mathematical decisions. Playing the purchased games will help students understand the concepts behind math problems. The games will help motivate my students to find creative solutions and take an active part in accelerating their own learning. Non worksheet performance tasks will allow them to show me what they have learned and better guide my individualized instruction.
Games provide opportunities for building self-confidence and develop a positive attitude towards math, and reduce their fer of failure and error.
Providing them a fun way to build skills independently from the teacher will help build their confidence and boost their test scores. They will work on spotting errors in math problems, play games to work on place value and hands on games for converting measurements.
