Students often struggle with mathematics and do not have a love of mathematics. Mathematics needs to be fun, engaging, memorable, and relatable for students in order to create this love of mathematics. Providing fun materials to make math meaningful increases engagement and in turn increases learning.
These materials will help to provide exciting opportunities for students to engage with mathematics and increase their number sense.
With the clock, I will be able to give the students a fun way to practice their time skills. The giant geometric shapes will allow students a hands-on way to see, feel, and describe the attributes of the different shapes. The giant dominoes and cards will be used to practice addition, subtraction, and comparing numbers. The balance will allow students to visually see balancing equations in a fun and meaningful way.
