My students need the magnetic manipulatives to engage them in lessons. These puzzles will engage students with academic skills and will help them in our open classroom.
My school is a Title I school that has children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. My class of second graders are anticipating what the new year will bring. My class is an open classroom. There are no walls! We have had a big change over the summer...our interactive SMART boards were taken down. We now have LED screens. This project is my solution to keep students engaged. This will allow students the opportunity to interact with magnetic manipulatives. This project will help engage students attention to help them be successful this year.
My Project
Imagine a class where students were excited to get up and go to the board and write how they solved a problem. Imagine the smiling faces of students clapping for each other. Our classroom has had a big change over the summer. We will not have a SMART board in our classroom this year. We will be using an LED screen. The LED screen is not a touch screen; it will not be as interactive as the SMART board. I want to continue having students to come up to a board and share their strategies. I want to continue having students shine as the class learns from them. With your help, you can make this happen. It would be an honor to have your help to find a solution to this problem. My second graders need manipulatives, and they love interacting with manipulatives. They love the opportunity to go up to the board and share their thinking. The Lakeshore Magentic Teaching Clock, Magnetic Base 10 set, and the Magnetic Math Manipulatives Library will be used by me and the students. I will be able to use these on my dry erase board and easily put them up for the students to see during the lesson. Then I will be able to have students to come up and share their thinking to different problems. In the past, I have tried to hold up nonmagnetic manipulatives by hand. It was hard for students to see, and the manipulatives would fall. The 18"x 24" Magnetic Write and Wipe Board would allow for me and students to continue to use these tools in small group. The Math Equivalency Puzzles Complete Set and In Context Academic Vocabulary Cards Grades 2-3 will engage students during our centers in reading and math.
