As a Leader In Me School, our school strives to find the leader in all students. Our Autism Support Classroom consists of multiple grade levels, supporting children with autism to expand on their academic, social and emotional, and independent functioning skills.
Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation.
My mission, as a teacher, is to motivate students and make learning fun in a welcoming and social learning environment. Each child is unique and each child learns in a different way. It is my objective to develop engaging lessons while differentiating instruction, so that concepts are learned and practiced at a level that is appropriate for each child.
The students in our class strive for improvement through collaboration, hands-on experiences and learning creatively. Together, we have truly created a community of learners who are committed to working hard and having fun.
Our class benefits from demonstrating their understanding and learning in various interactive ways. Giving students interactive ways and tools to show their learning, allows students to be engaged and motivated!
Students in our classroom benefit from interactive manipulatives to demonstrate their learning in language arts and math centers.
Our learning centers are designed to provide our students with exciting, interesting and hands-on experiences to practice, enrich, reteach and further their learning. The Letter Formation Sand Trays is one example of tactile learning by practicing letter formations in a interesting and motivating way. These types of centers are filled with manipulatives, technology, leveled readers and other instructional tools. Our project will help build on the variety of manipulatives and instructional tools to offer to our students. For example, the Didax Unifix Reading Phonics Kit will provide students hands-on practice manipulating letters to make words with recurring sound patterns and will allow for differentiated instruction. Centers provide time for the teacher to spend time with students individually or in small groups, and it helps students learn standards/curriculum in their own way and learning style.
Our students learn best using tactile and hands-on manipulativies and instructional tools in small group centers. The interactive center materials from this project will have an immediate, positive impact in our classroom.
