My students need 3 Apple iPod Touch players with headphone splitters to use during reading rotations to reinforce language arts concepts and reading strategies using educational applications.
Everywhere you look, children are engaged and captivated by technology. Whether it is an iPod, iPhone, or iPad, children love using technology on a daily basis. What better way to reinforce critical reading skills and language arts concepts than through iPod Touch players?
I am a first grade teacher at a wonderful public school in California.
The school has achieved high rankings as one of California's Distinguished Schools. In addition, it has also earned the Golden Bell Award and Honor Roll from the California Business for Education Excellence. My adorable first graders are just beginning to show a love for reading. They are exploring the world of literature on a daily basis, and they love to share with their classmates the many adventures they go on! My students are from diverse backgrounds and range in age from five to seven years old. They are eager learners, with an innate desire to become skilled readers. Every day, they come to school with a positive attitude and a smile on their face. They will LOVE using the iPod Touch players in the classroom.
My Project
First grade students are building their foundation for reading. They are practicing their phonics skills, word decoding, and reading comprehension on a daily basis through reading rotations and guided reading with the teacher. To enhance their learning, I am using an effective literacy program called The Daily Five, and one of the components of the program is to provide the students with the opportunity to listen to reading. I hope to achieve this experience through the use of reading applications on the iPod Touch. In addition, students can play games that reinforce phonics skills and word decoding strategies, which are vital towards them becoming proficient readers! By using this technology in the classroom, the students will be more capable of using technology throughout their education. The iPod Touch players will provide the students with an active, engaging, and fun learning environment that I know will foster a love for reading and learning.
I know you may be thinking that first graders are too young to reap the benefits of such advanced technology.
However, in today's world, children are growing up in a technological society where they thrive off using computers, the Internet, and video games. I know my eager first graders will view the iPod Touch players as an engaging tool to foster their learning through fun, meaningful, and educational applications. It is my goal for my students to develop an innate love of learning!
