My students are creative and hardworking individuals who live in the city of Boston. 46% of students in my school are designated as high need and represent a plethora of ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
This school year, I will be teaching special education to students with learning and/or emotional disabilities, supporting them in their progress with reading and writing.
I will also be participating in a practicum to become certified in the Wilson Reading System in order to teach rules-based reading to students with dyslexia.
My Project
In order to best engage my special education students, whether in person or remotely, these mini-whiteboards will allow learners to think independently before sharing their ideas with me and with their learning cohort. If we are in the school building this year, I will be moving from classroom to classroom, and I can bring the rolling easel with me to display anchor charts or use the magnetic feature for manipulation of materials, including Wilson Reading System magnetic letters. The easel board and chart paper will allow me to reach students, whether I am teaching virtually or in-person this fall. If I am teaching remotely, the easel will allow me to do these same things, but from my home.
Student engagement is the key to student success, and these materials will help to achieve that in my small groups, no matter what this school year looks like.
