My Students

As teachers we often throw the phrase "live long learners" around as the ultimate goal of education. To help learners to find so much joy, reward, and inspiration in learning that they never stop. Children in the third grade are often at a tipping point between loving school and believing that school is boring or void of enjoyment.

It is my opportunity, as a third grade teacher, to instill a love of learning through deep educational experiences , participating in rigorous, applicable curriculum, and gaining greater ownership for their learning.

Third graders are capable of deeper more abstract thought processes than in previous grades because of where they are developmentally. They are capable of critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative efforts. These capabilities if used correctly will increase their confidence and love for learning.

In my opinion, third graders are the best, most difficult, and most crucial age of all elementary grades. Often the patterns they learn in third grade will set them up for success or failure in upper grades.

My Project

This year and for many years to come, teachers will be working to close the gaps caused by Covid and problems surrounding a world pandemic. Students are struggling with their focus and struggling to reach grade level materials due to academic holes in previous grades.

These materials will allow for greater engagement in the classroom and give us the best possible chance of closing those Covid gaps.

Storyworks Jr. is a great magazine that we use for Reading and Writing. It is a great tool. The magnetic letters will help with closing holes from 1st and 2nd grade phonics and learning. Many of the other tools are manipulatives that I will use to close the gaps in math.
