I am blessed to teach the most amazing group of third graders. They amaze me daily with their love of questioning, math, researching, learning, experimenting, reading, leading, and education. My class is a very diverse group of learners that have a large variety of learning styles.
When a child has choices presented to them, their ability to truly feel successful is greatly enhanced.
From flexible seating options, student driven research projects, limitless leadership opportunities- I strongly believe in giving students choices in their learning and the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning to make them successful.
My Project
I absolutely love to try new and innovative ways to reach and teach all of my students. My 60+ students have multiple learning styles and I am driven to reach every student individually with what speaks to them. Having spent the last year with this goal in mind, I have set about to make every single lesson as engaging and memorable as possible. After attending Hope and Wade King's setting the Stage to Engage Professional development, I am more determined than ever!!!
I love to take risks in my classroom, and if you peek in my room, we may be using walkie talkies to communicate strategies to solve problems, wearing headlamps while navigating a "Number Line Mine", creating a new song to remember a skill or strategy, using race cars to demonstrate the skill of rounding, playing giant basketball to compare fractions, solving real world problems with clues brought in by "Secret Agents"... I like to make every lesson exciting and memorable.
The magnetic shapes allow for hands on geometry lessons, the inflatable football allows for exciting and engaging math game opportunities, frisbee discs to record answers on and refills for my class set of 3-Doodler...the list goes on and on! I am SO excited to extend and expand my engaging lessons.
Student engagement has been a HUGE predictor of success with complex lessons in my class. When the students are engaged and excited to learn, they do not even realize the difficulty of the lessons and skills that they are learning.
