Cameron Park Elementary School is located in downtown Hillsborough, NC. We are in the center of town surrounded by history and science. Our school has recently finished our School Improvement Plan which includes goals for strengthening our Reading, Writing, and Science programs.
I teach 21 very active and enthusiastic first graders. They are always asking questions and trying to learn new things. They love to work with their hands and share new ideas. As their teacher, I would like to encourage my students to use these skills to enhance their knowledge during our Science block. Our school uses a Science Kit program which comes with some materials needed to teach certain science concepts. I would like to expand on these science kits by adding more manipulatives and activities for the children to use. I want our science block to be inquiry based. I want the students to ask questions and learn from each other while working in small cooperative groups.
I have choose materials that I will be able to incorporate into my daily science curriculum. Students will be able to work freely with the materials purchased during science time. The materials that I am requesting will provide my students with resources that are not always provided at my school. For many children, these resources are not accessible at home. I want my students to love science and to love learning. It is my goal that these materials will enhance our daily classroom learning!
