Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach transitional kindergarten and kindergarten at a high poverty Title I school. My classroom makeup consists of English Language Learners, students with both academic and physical special needs, and several students that do not have many opportunities.
I love being able to create a caring and respectful classroom community for my students and offering opportunities that show them all of their possibilities!
My favorite part of teaching is building a community in my classroom and creating learning adventures that get my students excited about learning so that they cannot wait to come to school.
My Project
My students love STEM activities and need Lakeshore Family Engagement STEM packs to take home. These Family STEM packs are reusable take-home backpacks filled with different hands-on STEM activities. Students will be introduced to exciting engineering occupations including mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, etc. They will get to work with their family to solve a variety of problems and challenges. I am also requesting storage racks to keep the STEM packs accessible and organized.
These Family STEM packs will help to develop their skills in problem-solving, perseverance, cause and effect, engineering practices and the design process.
Being able to connect the home to school is very important. It allows my students to show their parents what they have learned and allows them to have family time doing activities that they enjoy.
