Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fourth-grade students come to class each day with a desire to learn. Providing them with high-quality texts and stories that keep them interested and focused while still learning is difficult. I have the privilege to teach students from diverse backgrounds.
Most of my students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
My students are English Language Learners. My students are eager to learn but lack the foundational skills in the areas of reading and writing. Background vocabulary is one of the areas that is impacting their reading comprehension skills.
My Project
My students are reading at different levels. At the beginning of the school year, I have administered a Developmental Reading Assessment. The assessment's results show that my students are reading at different levels ranging from first grade all the way through fourth grade.
My students will have the opportunity to become better at reading by having materials that are at their level.
Having Time for Kids magazines at different levels will allow my students to be engaged during independent reading.
All of my students will have the opportunity to practice multiple reading skills while interacting with text that is tailored to their reading ability.
