All children, regardless of their future career path, need basic science literacy to participate fully in civic life. I believe that the best method for achieving the goal of science literacy is to get students involved in the scientific process and let them do what comes naturally: ask questions and participate in hands-on activities and experiments that convey basic scientific principles. I teach developmentally delayed students in a Title 1 school. My students learn best from hands-on materials. I am writing this proposal in hopes of receiving some materials to put in our science center. I would love to introduce my students to life cycle science concepts. I would like a science discoveries pocket chart activity kit from Lakeshore. It has over 40 word and phrase cards and props that will reinforce key ideas of the life cycles of plants & flowers, frogs and butterflies. We would also love to have a butterfly nursery so we could watch caterpillars grow and turn into butterflies, a set of window greenhouses to watch plants grow, and a frog habitat which will be used to watch the life cycle of a frog. With these materials we will be able to teach our students many lessons on life cycles and add much excitement into our science center. These materials would be used for many, many years and provide wonderful science lessons for many students. Thank you for considering my proposal.
