My Students

My students are amazing kids. They are kind, helpful, hardworking, and try their best both academically and socially every day. Unfortunately, in addition to the typical challenges a 3rd grader or 4th grader may experience, my students often have additional stressors in their lives beyond their control. I try to create a learning environment that is safe and rigorous and also supports their wide variety of social and emotional needs.

Families at our school are loving, hardworking, and care so much about their children's education.

We are an urban school that celebrates diversity. Our student population includes a mix of African American, Latino, and Asian Pacific Islander students. We serve English Language Learners, support special needs through inclusion, and provide strong social-emotional support to all students. Additionally, over 75% of the students attending our school qualify for free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

I need new, high-interest books to engage my students in our character reading unit. I've specifically geared this project for my more reluctant readers who haven't found a series or character that has grabbed their interest. Some students have asked for funny characters, or want more graphic-type novels.

I want to give students books to read in class so they truly enjoy reading!

Nothing is more rewarding than to see your entire class with their noses in books or when they ask for more reading minutes. Kids like to read books with characters they can relate to, share struggles with, and laugh alongside.
