My students' ages can range from 4-7 years old. They are from diverse backgrounds. We are one elementary school in the 5th largest school district in the nation. My school is near the Air Force base so we do have many military families which means we have a high rate of transiency. The school is diverse in demographics ranging in 25% white, 45% African American, 20% Hispanic, and 10% others.
For many of the students, this is their first time in school and they are overwhelmed.
We have a population of students who are classified homeless or at risk/need. We have an ELL population as well. This means English is not their first language. I am also the inclusion teacher which means I will have students that have special needs.
My Project
The materials in this project will help engage my students with hands on and fun social learning centers.
The centers will give the students opportunity to explore and discover through play, engagement, socializing and problem solving.
The centers are for phonics/reading and also math.
They will learn through play and also from their peers. Socializing and peer interaction is very important now more than ever with our world and the pandemic. Social and emotional learning is so very important and having centers will help promote healthy peer interactions.
The materials will help provide the students with strong foundational skills for both reading and math.
