Help me give my students copies of "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. This books is a page turner and offers an important look at kindness and tolerance in a middle school setting.
My students are curious and bright, and very high energy! I teach 6th grade in Española, New Mexico, a rural district in the northeastern part of the state. The area has a rich and diverse history, and my students are incredibly proud of their heritage. I am continually looking to both honor their unique backgrounds and to expand their worldview by exposing them to people, places, and ideas that are outside their normal sphere of reference.
These 6th graders are critical thinkers, storytellers, creatives, and the leaders of their school.
I'm so excited to see what they accomplish this year, outside their normal classroom environment.
My Project
With distance learning upon us again, with your support, I'd like to send a copy of R.J. Palacio's "Wonder" home to each of my 6th grade students. Much of our learning this year will take place on chromebooks, reading texts online.
I want my students to also have the oppourtunity to enjoy reading a great book, that they can hold in their hands, and curl up with anywhere they please.
"Wonder" is an engaging story that I know my students will love. It will spark important class discussions about kindness, tolerance and courage.
