My students are a diverse group of children who are inquisitive, passionate about learning, and motivated to succeed. They come to school every day excited about learning. They are also very proud of their accomplishments.
I teach in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in San Diego.
One hundred percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students are English language learners. However, they make great progress every year. Every spring, my school has a heart-warming celebration to honor those children who have become fluent English speakers. Parents decorate the auditorium, students give moving speeches, prominent people of San Diego say some motivating words, and there is never a dry eye in the audience.
Over the summer, I was cleaning and organizing my classroom library. I noticed that many beloved books have become worn and torn. I would like to refresh my library with some engaging and fun books.
I would like the students to start the year excited about reading.
Having new and engaging titles in my classroom library will definitely help get the students back into the routine of nightly reading.
I purposely chose titles that were fun, but also had characters that represented the students in my class. I feel this will also help motivate my students to become avid readers.
