My students need engaging books that will inspire them to read, help them to learn about other cultures, and give them a chance to see themselves in the stories of these characters.
I work in a Title I school that has a unique population of students from a variety of backgrounds. We are constantly trying to find ways to address the different needs of all of the students in the school.
My students are hard working, eager to learn, and open to learning effective ways to cope with their emotions.
I work with students who are reading below grade-level and need intervention services to help them to grow as readers. Many of my students haven't found a love for reading yet because it has been a struggle for them for so many years. I would like to introduce them to a variety of texts that they are eager to read and excited to talk about with others.
My Project
I will use the books as a part of my small group reading lesson each day for read-aloud for the entire book and by reading a portion of each book to get students interested and curious about finishing the book. The students can then check out the books to read on their own and share their critique of the book with the rest of the group.
My goal is to have a variety of books available so that every child can find a book that they love and are eager to read.
This is critical for some of my reluctant readers who have never fallen in love with a book.
